About WIP

Community

We are a large and growing group of women who work in a wide range of disciplines across the investment industry, including consultant relations, research, portfolio management, legal, marketing, accounting and many others.

Mission

We aim to enhance women’s opportunities and growth in the investment industry by offering professional and personal development, educational programs and networking opportunities.

Vision

A community of women investing in women, inspiring one other and instilling the confidence to achieve their full potential.

Values

We were founded on and continue to embrace three core principles that we believe are critical to the advancement of women in the investment industry. These values guide the decisions of our leadership team and as well as our interactions with one another:

  • Integrity: We strive for personal and professional excellence in all we do, and aim to serve as a role model for others in the investment industry
  • Collaboration: We appreciate the importance of working together. We advocate for and invest in one another, and celebrate our individual as well as our collective success.
  • Inclusivity: We foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive community that is supportive of all women.

History

In 1996, Joanne Hickman Dodd and Carla Straeten established a loosely knit group of about 15 women who worked in the institutional investing business. Early members found that these relationships were extremely helpful. By sharing ideas, insights and connections, they were able to expand their networks and make valuable connections that helped them succeed in a male-dominated industry.

Today, WIP is made up of more than 400 members from across the investment industry. We remain self-managed and are a funded by a growing list of sponsor firms. Our board and committees are made up of volunteers from among WIP membership. In addition to members-only activities and benefits, we offer a number of annual events that are open to non-members, and maintain a quarterly newsletter and social media presence.

Leadership

Our board members are accomplished women investment professionals who volunteer their time, skills and leadership in support of WIP's mission.
