Our careers are not just boxes checked and endless emails sent, they are real life, dynamic experiences with challenges, twists and turns, unexpected circumstances, and joyful successes. This year the Professional Development Committee will focus on reinventing the traditional perception of networking, reflect on how to maximize career opportunities, and explore how to rejuvenate and recharge our careers. Across all of these topics, we will get real and share our actual stories, drawing inspiration from our collective experiences.
Career Opportunities
We are often asking ourselves, how do I progress? What is next for my career? Yet sometimes we aren’t sure where to begin or know enough about the many opportunities that exist in our industry. Whether you are looking to move into a more senior leadership role, build skills to refine your career, or just want to learn about different opportunities that might be a good fit for you, this session will be both educational and fun. We will discuss the many roles and opportunities in the financial and asset management industry.

Jane Marcus is a seasoned leadership coach with a track record of helping her clients identify their strengths, motivators, and blind spots. She leverages 30 years of experience in executive development and talent acquisition with a proven and effective coaching process.
Her highly personalized approach, combined with Columbia University’s data- driven techniques helps her clients clarify their priorities, understand their impact on others, and focus their development efforts to maximize their organizational and personal effectiveness.
Jane’s clients are leaders at different stages of their leadership journey: individuals who are transitioning to a new role; Individuals considering “what’s next” in their career; and individuals seeking to develop new skills and build self-awareness.

Jane has also been invited to speak to various organizations on the leadership journey of women from mid-career to the boardroom. She worked with three highly regarded management consulting firms before transitioning to a full-time coaching practice, including Korn Ferry, Heidrick & Struggles, and Russell Reynolds Associates.
Jane holds an MBA, with distinction, from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and a fine arts degree from Stephens College. She graduated from Columbia University’s prestigious Coaching Certification Program and holds the ACC designation from the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Apart from her coaching practice, Jane serves on nonprofit Boards, including the Executive Committee of WINGS, a Chicago-based program focused on ending the cycle of domestic violence. She was also selected to join EWA (Exceptional Women Alliance), a peer-to-peer mentoring group for high-level, high-potential women.
Jane lives with her husband on three wooded acres in the Chicago suburbs, where she enjoys the peacefulness of nature while also remaining close to the energy of urban life. A native Kentuckian, she is a college basketball fan and a former competitive ballroom dancer who still channels her inner Ginger Rogers on the dance floor several times a week.

Joanne Hickman Dodd

Joanne is a collaborative leader, global investment management sales executive, and board member with more than 35 years of expertise in leadership, business development and strategy. She developed global sales strategies for both traditional and alternative asset classes for large global asset management firms and worked across multiple market channels and multiple geographies, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She has served on numerous boards in leadership roles, contributing to significant innovation and transformation.
Most recently, Joanne was the Senior Vice President, Relationship Manager and Coordinator of Global Consultant Relations for Capital Group. Prior to joining Capital Group in 2014, she was Managing Director and Global Head of Consultant Relations at Northern Trust Asset Management, and Managing Director and Head of Consultant Relations, Americas, at UBS Global Asset Management.
Joanne has been a longstanding, passionate advocate for women. In 1996, recognizing the scarcity of women in financial services, she co-founded Women Investment Professionals (“WIP”) which inspires, empowers, and advocates the advancement of women in the investment industry. Today, WIP has over four hundred members. In 2022, WIP’s Board created the Joanne Hickman Dodd Award to recognize emerging women leaders in the investment industry. This was a great tribute to Joanne and her life-long dedication to mentoring and educating emerging women leaders.
Joanne is a natural mentor and coach. Throughout her career, she has mentored, promoted, and supported emerging leaders and their careers, and she has celebrated their successes – both professional and personal. Joanne is committed to continuing to invest in emerging leaders as a trusted advisor and mentor.
Much of Joanne’s career philosophy has been based on a deep conviction in the importance of building genuine relationships, networks, and connections with key stakeholders to expand career opportunities and realize ultimate business success. Joanne is eager to share her insights in cultivating strong networks of supporters and advocates as well as ways to solidify these relationships throughout one’s career and beyond.
Joanne currently sits on the Advisory Board of the Lotus Women’s Institute, LLC., a corporation whose mission is to attract, develop, and advance women in finance to increase female representation in this industry.
As a longstanding leader in her community, Joanne has served on several nonprofit boards over three decades. For six years, Joanne served on the Board of Deborah’s Place, dedicated to supporting homeless women and helping them improve their lives. She served in several roles, including Chair of the Governance Committee and is currently Board Member Emeritus.
Joanne is a dedicated mother and grandmother. She cherishes time making memories with family and friends. Her passions include sailing, cycling, and golfing as well as enjoying adventure travel.
Joanne earned her MBA from the Quinlan School at Loyola University in Chicago.
Kristen Doyle, CFA
Head of U.S. Institutional Market Strategy

Kristen Doyle is focused on the strategy for Institutional business, ranging from the development of views of investor needs by channel to the implementation of those views. In strong collaboration with the Head of U.S. Institutional, she is responsible for developing and adapting the go-to-market strategy for investment products in different client, channel, and market segments. This includes developing a messaging strategy and optimizing current products as well as identifying new opportunities to meet investor demands. Additionally, she works closely with the Product Strategy team and Chief Operating Officer for Client Services in order to form and implement these strategic initiatives.
Ms. Doyle joined Lord Abbett in 2022. Her previous experience includes serving in various roles at Aon Investments including Partner & Business Leader; Partner & Lead Investment Consultant/RelationshipManager; Partner & Public Sector Solutions Leader; Association Partner & Investment Consultant/Research Team Lead; and Investment Conultant. Prior to that, she served as Accounting Analyst at Northern Trust Company. She has worked in the financial services industry since 2001.
She earned a BA in economics from Denison University and is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation.

Sandra Magallon is a Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager for the Chicago market in Commercial Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In this capacity, her responsibilities include leading a team of specialists focused on understanding each client’s unique needs to deliver strategic financial guidance and solutions. Sandra’s mission is to help local minority owned companies thrive by achieving their business goals, no matter how simple or complex.
Bringing 25 years of experience, Sandra joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch in 2022. She has also served as a Business Development Director and was the Midwest Business Banking Area Manager at JP Morgan Chase where she was responsible for launching the Minority Entrepreneurs Development program. Sandra was featured in Crain’s Chicago and Negocios Now for her work in the community. She has also presented in the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Conference, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference, NYSE Entrepreneurs Bootcamp, Women’s Business Development Center Summit, and World Business Chicago Black and Latino Summit.
To help create a more sustainable future for the companies and communities she serves, Sandra volunteers with several not-for-profit organizations focused on developing programs to help advance the economic growth of businesses in her community. Presently, she is serving as an advisor for the University of Illinois Systems Diverse Supplier Development Program.
Sandra holds a M.A. from Forbes School of Business & Technology at Ashford University, completed Kellogg’s Nonprofit DEI certification, B.A. in Communications & Marketing from DePaul University and is a certified business coach. She is also an executive Board member of Mujeres Latinas en Accion.

Kathy Roeser is a Managing Director and founder of the Roeser Barbanente Group at Morgan Stanley. For over 35 years Kathy has been helping successful executives and multi-generational families build and protect their wealth.
Kathy’s strategy includes a goals-based approach to financial planning and creating tailored investment management solutions. Taking time at the outset to understand what matters most to each client, allows her to create a customized plan that gives clients confidence that they can achieve their financial goals. From younger clients who are focused on wealth accumulation, to mid-life clients whose goals are asset preservation and retirement planning, to older clients who are thinking about estate and legacy planning, Kathy is the advisor they trust to create a personalized wealth-management strategy.
Kathy believes that an educated investor is a better investor, therefore she spends time at each client meeting discussing the capital markets and how they impact a client’s plans. Kathy, a Chartered Financial Consultant®, graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. She is a member of Morgan Stanley’s Consulting Group Advisory Council. She also sits on Indiana University’s Dean’s Business Council and has served on Michigan State University’s Financial Markets Institute Advisory Board. Kathy is active with a number of charities, including the YMCA of Metro Chicago, where she serves on the Board of Managers, along with the Make-it-Better Foundation. Outside of the office, she enjoys time with her husband and two sons, playing golf, and traveling.
